Cinnamon buns: a dessert to sweeten your day!

Who doesn’t love cinnamon buns? This recipe I am going to share with you is an old time classic and it has never failed me. I admit it takes some time to make but trust me; when they are done, you won’t regret it.

A friend of mine used to make them on the first Monday of every month while we were in university. She said it was somewhat customary. She did all the work and I was the one to taste these divine little treats. Eventually, I asked her for the recipe and that’s how I am able to share it with you.

You can make cinnamon buns to go for a picnic or offer them as a treat to your workplace or even have them in the morning with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. The options are endless.

Let’s get started.

Cinnamon Buns

makes 16 buns

For the dough

240 ml warm milk

1 tablespoon (15gr) yeast

235gr granulated sugar

1 teaspoon (5gr) salt

2 large eggs

115 ml melted butter

1450 gr all-purpose flour

For the filling

480 gr brown sugar

2 teaspoons (10gr) cinnamon

115 ml melted butter

Dough

1.In a medium bowl, combine the warm milk, the yeast and 1 pinch of sugar. Stir until dissolved. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

2.In another bowl pour the melted butter and add the salt and the 2 eggs. Stir until well combined.

3.In a very large bowl, combine the milk-yeast mixture with the butter-eggs one. Add the granulated sugar as well as the flour.

4.Mix well until a dough is formed. Cover the dough with a cotton kitchen towel and let it rest for 45 minutes.

Filling

1.In a bowl, add the brown sugar and the cinnamon. Mix well. Pour the melted butter on top and stir.

2.Spread the filling over the dough. Roll over the dough and divide it into 16 pieces. Let them sit for another 45 minutes until well risen. Put them in a round tray that you have spread butter on. Bake in 175ºC (350ºF) for 30 minutes.
