Get ready after the summer vacation: 3 simple steps

Summer vacation is almost over and you have to go back to work/school/university (you name it) in a couple of days. Yet, you absolutely feel like doing nothing at all, staying in bed and watching series all day long. You want to get ready, you want to get in the right mood and be productive but don’t know where to begin. How do you pull yourself together? Well, I am going to share a few tips that will make this task easier. These are the steps I follow every year to get back to my routine for the winter and they seem to work pretty well.

Small steps. You don’t have to do everything the first day you come back from your vacation. Instead, do this:

If you are preparing for work/university, on your first day back just unpack your suitcase and do the laundry little by little. Then, the next day, head to the grocery store to buy everything you need to get through the first week. My fridge is usually quite empty when I return home from my vacation so on my first visit to the grocery store, I only buy what I absolutely need to get by until the end of the week.

If you are preparing for another school year, pretty much the same applies to you people. Unpack your suitcase and do your laundry (yes, you can do your own laundry with supervision if you are 11 years old or older). Then, as first day of school comes closer, you might want to take a look at your room and office space. Remove anything you think might not be useful this year and if left can end up cluttering the space. Next, make a list of anything you will need for school this year such as new stationery, notebooks and stuff like that.

My point here is to get yourself back into the routine you had before leaving without going through the shock of having to do everything in a day.

Get yourself a new planner. I have talked before about the importance of a planner and the way it makes our lives more organized and simpler to navigate. So, go to your favorite bookstore or scroll through different sites online, whichever your preference is. You can even design your own digital planner. Now, sit down and make a list of your first week back. Remember to keep it short. You can freshen up your memory on how to create successful lists here. Only this time, I advise you to even go shorter and add only 4 or 5 tasks per day for the first week. This is to give you time to adjust to your reality and your new daily schedule.

Have fun. While preparing for your work, university or school, you still have to have some fun. It shouldn’t be all about getting ready. So, try to squeeze a nice walk every day, call your friends and meet them for a coffee to catch up, go out and have dinner at your favorite place. Remind yourself that even though summer is over, there are still many things you can do and have a great time.

That’s it people! These are the three steps I follow every September to get ready for another exciting year. What is your recipe of getting back to your daily routine after the summer vacation? Comment down below, like and share this article with your friends.
